Ana Teresa Freitas is a Full Professor and Chair of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), where she leads research in computational biology, AI for health, and bioinformatics. She founded and led Portugal’s largest computational biology group (KDBIO) and was the founder and CEO of HeartGenetics, a genomics and digital health startup later acquired by TOMALAB. As a researcher at INESC-ID, she is the scientific coordinator of the Life and Health Technology thematic line. She is also non-executive board member at the research institute Institute INESC MN. At the European level, she serves as Head of Node for ELIXIR Portugal and previously as Vice-Chair of the ELIXIR Europe Board. She is also Vice President of BioData.pt, advancing national and European infrastructures for life and health data.
