Context
FMUL is looking for a Data Scientist to join the PREDICMET (Development of a clinical decision-making support tool for predicting disease progression in oligometastatic breast cancer patients) team led by Dr. João Guimarães, funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia – FCT [2024.07299.IACDC/2024].
Candidate Profile
- MSc in the field of computer science, data science, statistics and related areas;
- Experience with Python and/or R, machine learning libraries and AI/ML frameworks;
- Solid understanding of statistical, machine learning and deep learning algorithms;
- Familiarity with research in cancer and/or immunology;
- Familiarity with MLOps;
- Experience visualizing and manipulating large data sets;
- Problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills;
- Communication and collaboration skills.
Working Conditions
Fixed-term contract for six months, renewable until the end of the project, with a gross monthly salary of 1.834,93€ in accordance with the budget defined in the project and by law. The employment contract includes a daily meal allowance of 6€ for each working day, as well as paid Holiday and Christmas allowances. The indicated amount will be subject to the mandatory taxes as defined by law.
The work will be developed at the Institute for Preventive Medicine and Public Health, FMUL, 35 hours/week, and the expected start date is 04.2025.

Evaluation Criteria
Application will be evaluated by João Guimarães, and Mariana Santos in accordance with the following criteria:
- Motivation letter (20%)
- Overall CV and experience (50%)
- Interview (30%). Only candidates ranking in the top 3 (based on the criteria above) will be called for an interview.

Results
All admitted candidates will be notified of the results by email. After notification, all candidates have 10 working days to respond. The panel’s final decision is communicated within a period of 30 days from the application deadline.
