The webinar “The iSTARS Project: an opportunity to develop a data science programme in health and medicine”, organized by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL), took place on 20 April.

The online seminar, which had an audience of 121 researchers from different countries, was attended by two of its coordinators – Professor Ruy Ribeiro (FMUL) and Professor António Vaz Carneiro (FMUL). Professor Ruy Ribeiro presented the iSTARS – Informatics and Statistical Tools for the Advancement of Research Success project. This six-year project, funded by the European Union in the amount of about 2.5 ME, is part of the European funding programme ERA Chair, within the scope of H2020.

The main objective of the project is to conduct research of excellence in the field of data science and health at the Faculty of Medicine. In addition to this premise, the ERA Chair iSTARS project also provides lines of action in the area of science communication, sustainability, training and skills development for health professionals, and the involvement of partners that could transform the way data science is integrated into health decisions.
